General condition and any additional information
UP for your consideration is an almost new, llghtly used MacGregor 26X. The boat was purchased by us less than a year ago in 2018. The original owners motored the North Channel then stored for 20 years under their elevated deck! When we purchased the boat, the sails and rigging were still in their original factory boxes, still tied in factory ”ribbons” We couldn’t believe our eyes at the inventory that was still factory packaged.
The 50 HP Mercury 4 stroke engine had about 50 hours of use, all in fresh water. We know this because we bought the boat from the nephew of the original owners. He had been tasked with finally selling the boat. The engine looks like new. Remove the cowl and internally there is no grime, soot, gas or oil drippings. It still shines.
The MacGregor has several unique features. One is a mast raising/lowering system. A simple engineering marvel allows one person to raise and lower the mast easily. Even a kid can do it! This enables you to go under bridges or cradle the mast and cruise all day, motoring where other sailers can’t go. Another unique feature is the water ballast that allows you to easily convert from motoring to sailing with the pull of a handle. The boat has a 9 inch draft with the center board up. Thus you can gunk hole without fear of grounding and dock in places where most sailboats can’t go.
If you are new to the MacGregor, go online and check out the hundreds of videos and tutorials posted by it’s cult following to see the unique handling capability this boat has to offer. We will also provide the new owners with the original brochure we have had for 30 years or so!
The hull is basically perfect. We invested $2,000 into bottom painting by a professional this last winter. The paint is a very expensive multi-function Interlux paint that allows the boat to go from salt to fresh water without concern. We added a new Garmin plotter, professionally installed. The boat itself is in very, very good shape. The hull and deck are near pristine. The interior is like new, roomy and comfortable. It sleeps up to six, including a king size rear berth, and table settee seats four. There is a private stand-up head with Porta potty. In fact most of the cabin interior has stand-up headroom.
This boat is surprisingly easy to trailer. We had the trailer overhauled with new wiring and lighting, including new tires. A good spare tire is included. The trailer has a bow ladder to access the boat on the trailer.
Our MacGregor is in the water at Torch Lake near Traverse City, Michigan.
