Standard features

She is the saltest boat in the harbor and evokes envy and admiring study.
Blue Moon is a custom design by Thomas Gillmer for his own use and she has been a constant winner ever since with many ocean crossings to her credit. If you are not familiar with Thomas Gillmer he designed the two Baltimore Clipper goodwill ships. He also designed a number of boats for the Allied boat company including the Sea Wind Ketch which was the first fiberglass boat to circumnavigate.
Blue Moon is 22'11" on deck and has a 6' bowsprit and when rigged as a yawl a boom-kin too. Beam is 8'7" and Draft 4'1".
The fittings through out the boat and on Deck are custom and of high quality.
Blue Moon is a Gaff topsail cutter/yawl. She carries her yawl rig below deck when not wanted, a simple operation to set up or take down. She is built to the highest standards and her strength is beyond anything I have ever seen particularly for a small boat. She has ribs of 4 lamination measuring 1-3/4" wide by 2-3/4". She is strip planked of 1-3/4" wide planking and while I don't know this to be a fact she is probably glued and edge nailed (a common practice in this type of construction). Adding to her strength is the fact that she is of raised deck construction with a cabin house which has 8 opening ports. Her interior is simple with a single bunk, a large cabinet, water tank and port a-potti. Her designer shows a 2 bunk layout so if you need more bunk space she can be modified to plan. She has 1 battery and a solar panel to keep it topped off. Along with the set of sails she has been using there is an additional main and staysail brand new never been out of their bags. All sails made by Gamble and Hunter of Camden Maine who are known as old time sail makers and particularly adept in the gaff rig. Additional equipment consists of anchors, chain and rode, nav lights, compass and self steering equipment, diaphram bilge pump, life jacket, 4 stroke outboard engine, and brand new sail covers of sunbrella.
This boat can be a fun boat for a crew. With 4 lower sails when rigged as a yawl plus a top'sl there are strings enough for every one to pull. As a single hander she is easy, with the boomed staysail and the self tending main and mizzen you can't ask for anything simpler. This is a deep sea boat with a shallow self draining cockpit. She will take you to the island of your dreams and when you decide(if ever) to come back she will do that too!
She is lying in the fishing village at Steinhatchee Florida ready to take you to Key West and beyond, get away from the weather come down and sail her for a dream vacation and the start of an adventure.
As to value....this can be a real win/win situation. I refer you to Wooden Boat Magazine issue July/August 2008 #203 page 147 there you will find a Blue Moon advertised for $25,000 my offering allows you to have a good time and make a profit too. As a testment to the popularity of the Blue Moon design, recently the Atlantic Challenge Apprentice Shop in Rockland Maine built a Blue Moon for a client and it cost well over $100,000 and is shown in the Launching pages of Wooden Boat #206 Jan/Feb 2009 issue. The Atlantic Challenge has a web page showing her during construction, these are husky boats designed for cruising in all weather. They will take care of you.
I am 81 years old and time (my wife says) to quit fooling around with boats, I really love this boat and I want her to go to a good home. She is reduced from $16,000 to make for a quick sale. If you are truly interested call me or write I have more pictures and information. Bob Archibald
